Verwendung von all und whole
All
unterstreicht, dass alle Mitglieder einer Gruppe gemeint sind (wir alle, all of us). Vor Singularwörtern jedoch bedeutet
all
= ganz/e/s.
a)
All
kann nach einem Subjekt im Plural verwendet, oder in Verbindung mit
of
vor das
Personalpronomen in Objektform
gestellt werden.
b) In substantivischer Form tritt
all
nur in
Relativsätzen
auf.
c) Hat das Substantiv, auf das sich all bezieht, einen
Artikel
, dann steht all vor diesem Artikel.
d) Wird jedoch
all
durch whole ersetzt, steht der
Artikel
vor
whole
.
e) Wird
whole
mit einem Wort verwendet, das keinen
Artikel
hat, so muss die Verbindung
the whole of
gebraucht werden.
f) In Verbindung mit geographischen Begriffen, weist

meist auf die Bewohner,
