Es gibt noch zwei weitere Fälle, bei denen ein Infinitiv
ohne die Präposition to angeschlossen wird. Die Präposition
to steht nicht nach but
und except,
wenn bereits ein Infinitiv im Hauptsatz steht.
Beispiele
There was nothing we could do but sit and wait.
There was nothing we could do except sit and wait.
aber: To sit here is bad, but
to go away is even worse.
Bei einer Aneinanderreihung von Infinitiven erhält
nur der erste ein to, alle folgenden erhalten keines.
Beispiele
He wanted to eat, drink, sleep and celebrate at the same time.
She asked us to go to the post office and buy some stamps.
